As one chapter ends another begins . . .
In a few weeks, the academic year draws to a close and we begin to prepare for the start of a new journey.
Almost a year has passed since the establishment of the Q3 Academies Trust which includes Q3 Academy Great Barr and Q3 Academy Langley (opened September 2016). This resulted in a change in my role from Principal to Chief Executive with oversight of both Academies. Each Academy has its own Head of School; I am fortunate to have two highly talented and skilled leaders driving forward the vision with their teams. Staff have been able to share expertise across both sites and there has also been student collaboration.
We are delighted to confirm the opening of our new Grace Payne Aspiration Centre; built as a lasting memory to our Sponsor’s late wife, the facility will house the newly formed CCF (Combined Cadet Force) detachment. The cadets’ main parade evening will be Wednesdays along with a wide selection of off-site activities and leadership challenges.
The centre will also provide the inspiration for our brand new Aspire2Innovate programme designed for students from Year 9 upwards. This will focus on developing leadership and enterprise skills and will be accredited through the Chartered Institute of Management. Students will also be supported by a personal business mentor and the scheme will be launched at the Academy’s Business Breakfast at the end of term.
Our young people are at the heart of these initiatives; we constantly strive to find new opportunities to support their personal development. Their thirst for knowledge and love of learning fuels my determination to always focus on giving them the best so that they become the best they can be.
We could not achieve all that we do without the dedication of our staff who work tirelessly to provide opportunities for all of our students; I pay tribute to their on-going support and commitment to the Q3 vision. As you read through this edition of FoQus you too will get a flavour of the tremendous input from our staff across both academies. I would also like to thank our Sponsor, Trustees and Governors who give generously of their time to support our work.
I wish all of our students and staff a restful summer break as they prepare for the next chapter in the Q3 journey.
