Home Learning

KS3

KS4 & 5

Home Learning is slightly different for KS3 (Years 7-9) than it is for KS4 and 5 (Years 10-13), so please see the relevant tab for information specific to the Year Group of your child. If you have any concerns or questions regarding home learning, please email your child’s Personal Tutor. We continue to ask that parents/carers do not call the Academy, keeping our telephone lines free for absence and COVID-19 test result reporting.

Students can continue to access their learning remotely, and for this we use Google Classroom. All students have a Q3 Academy Great Barr Google Account that they can use to access this which will allow them in turn to see resources and activities specific to their classes. Students can log in to Google Classroom using their Academy email address which is in the format username@q3academy.me and their password which is the same as the one they use to log on to an Academy device.

Watch this video here to see how to use Google Classroom.

Google Classroom can be easily accessed through the internet browser of any device connected to the internet (mobile phone, tablet, computer/laptop, smart TV, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, or XBox, etc.).

Where using a mobile device or tablet, students may find it helpful to download the Google Classroom app and relevant Google apps such as Google Docs and Google Sheets to allow them to edit shared files. These are available in the App/Play Store.

We appreciate that for students in our younger years, many will be in childcare during the day and unable to access online learning during this time. Daily work will be provided through Google Classroom in the subject areas that students would usually study if they were in the Academy. We ask that students follow the order of their timetable as they would in the Academy, even when accessing their work at a later time. Students’ timetables can be seen by parents/carers in Insight ParentPortal. Some Live Lessons will be offered for those students able to attend at their normal lessons time, but most work set can be accessed at any time providing flexibility for students and parents/carers.

Students can access additional work and support through the Google Classroom for their Year Group in which there are a range of resources and extra reading that may be of interest to them. There is also an endless supply of work available through HegartyMaths, Tassomai, DuoLingo, and Linguascope which all students should be accessing alongside the work set by their teaching staff.

Students in Years 7-9 can access Google Classroom here

Any work completed outside of the Academy can be submitted through Google Classroom or printed and stuck into exercise books on return to the Academy.

Please note that where a Live Lesson is offered this will be conducted through Google Meet and students will only be able to access this through their Academy Google Account. Students should mute their microphone and not display their webcam when joining a Live Lesson, opting to toggle their microphone on if they wish to ask a question, or use the chat feature. Students should seek consent from a parent/carer before joining Google Meet lessons noting that they are recorded for internal quality assurance and safeguarding purposes, and may be shared on Google Classroom for students who were unable to join at the time of the lesson.

Alternatively, booklets relevant to their Scheme for Learning can be found here:

Resources and materials for students in Years 10-11 and Sixth Form are available through Google Classroom for your specific class. Students should access lessons at the same time as they would in the Academy following their normal timetable, students’ timetables can be seen by parents/carers in Insight ParentPortal

All students will have break at 11:15am – 11:35am, and then lunch at 1:35pm – 2:05pm.
