Organic Fruit & Vegetable scheme

Dear Parents & Carers

I am writing to let you know about an exciting new initiative that I am introducing this term that I thought may be of interest to you.

It is at this time of the year that many people are trying their best to improve their eating habits, whether this is a result of Christmas over-eating or down to New Year Resolutions, there's never been a better time to reinvigorate your diet (I suppose I would say that, I'm a food teacher).

Here at Q3 Academy we have partnered up with one of the most well established providers of organic and locally produced fruit and vegetables and we are delighted to announce the start of our new Organic Fruit & Vegetable scheme in conjunction with Able & Cole.

The scheme basically involves parents, carers and staff being able to order weekly deliveries of seasonal produce, all of which is organic and where possible produced locally (obviously there are some exceptions; bananas don't grow too well in the Midlands). These bags will then be delivered to the Academy on a Monday for collection (you can pop in and pick them up after school or get your child to bring it home for you). The contents will change every week depending on what's in season so you'll get lots of the standard items along with the odd new thing to try, but don't worry, we'll pop recipe ideas in so you're not going to be stuck with a celeriac or some chard that you don't know what to do with.

The selection bag options and prices are shown below along with an idea of what's in the bags next week. The easiest way to order is to pay for a block of weeks, either a half term, term, or even a whole year but you're also welcome to order on a week by week basis, just make sure you return your order form by the Monday and your bags will be ready the following week.

So how does this benefit the Academy?

For the last 6 months I have been looking at ways to raise funds for the students to have their own stall at the BBC Good Food Show in November 2012. We need to raise quite a lot as the plan is to have a large exhibition stand where students are cooking and selling produce to the visitors to the show as well as demonstrating their skills.

Able & Cole will donate 25% of the cost of these bags to us directly and this money will go into our ‘Good Food Show' account so by taking part in the scheme you will not only be getting some delicious produce but you'll also be helping our students to realise this great opportunity.

What to do next?

Able & Cole will be sending us a sample of each of the bags (along with a box of fresh organic apples to try to bribe you with) and we will be having a launch event on Monday 16th January from 4.30pm - 6pm in the design centre here at Q3 where you can come and see the bags and their contents, ask any questions and hopefully place your orders.

If you can't make the launch event but would like to order there are order forms on reception, these just need filling in and returning at least a week before you want your first fruit or veg bag delivery along with a cheque for however many weeks you wish to order. The first delivery to the Academy will be on the 23rd January.

If you have any questions regarding this scheme I can be contacted via the Discovery office.

Kind regards,

Mr A Daw
