Parent Carer Views of the Academy

September 2010

A recent survey was conducted with the parents/carers and students of Q3 Academy to ascertain their views and opinions.

This survey was conducted by an Independent Organisation, and the results were analysed by them.

The following results reflect the views of parents/carers and students (September 2010):

Parent/Carer views of the Academy

179 surveys were completed and returned to the Academy. All parents/carers were offered the opportunity to respond.

‘The survey results reveal that the Academy has reason to be happy with most of its activities' KIRKLAND ROWELL

Q3 parents/carers are most happy with the Academy Facilities, Academy Security, Control of Bullying, Computer Access, Academy Communication and Caring Teachers.

The core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science scored highly as academic subjects with parents/carers.

The top priority for parents/carers is Quality Teaching. This is in line with the new Academy Development Plan. At the start of 2009, Q3 Academy developed a ‘Teaching and Learning' staff group designed to filter the latest ideas throughout the Academy. This groups now meets on a regular basis and delivers staff training days in order to make Quality Teaching the priority.
All Senior Staff conduct Learning Walks to share good practise and this is celebrated in staff briefing.

Student Views of the Academy

642 surveys were completed representing 58.4% of Q3 students.

‘The survey results reveal that the Academy has reason to be happy with most of its activities' KIRKLAND ROWELL

Students scored most highly for Academy facilities, Computer Access, Community Spirit, Teaching Quality and Levels of Homework (Independent Learning).
The Academy has several Advanced Skills Teachers and one has the responsibility to monitor Independent Learning across Q3.

The students deem ‘Happiness of the Child' to be the most important factor to them within Q3.

Views of Stakeholders are collected regularly at the Academy via:

- Parent/Carer Committee Meeting. See under ‘PACT' for dates and further details. New parents/carers always welcome.
(PACT - parent commitee - http://www.q3academy.org.uk/parent-committee)
- Parent/Carer questionnaires after all major events.
- Comments placed upon the Q3 Academy website.
- Academy Council Meetings for students. These take place each half term in every Company and views are then shared with The Principal in the more formal forum.
- Diary Room. Soon to be reinstated at Q3 for students.
- Curriculum Reviews. Student voice is a major part of these.
- Principals' Focus Group. Held regularly with students from all year groups.
- Stakeholders Reference Group to include staff, community members and local residents.
- Governors meetings.
- West Bromwich North Learning Community. To include Q3 and 12 Primary Head Teachers.
