Q3 Netball
U14 and U16 Netball Vs George Salter
[29-11-11]
The under 14 team continued their bright start to the season by a 3-0 victory over George Salter. As the scoreline suggests, it was a tight game and the girls battled hard for a win. There were some missed opportunties early on by both teams but Q3 took the lead before half time. Thanks to some great defending, notably by Yasmin Leigh Chevers, who recieved player of the match, we came away victorious. The team should be proud of the committment they have shown so far this season, reflected in some great results.
The under 16 team, consisting of a number of girls from the under 14 squad, were not so lucky in the result. They conceded early and were trailing at half time. By the second half they were showing determination and there were some great moments of play. Unfortunately it finished 5-3 to George Salter. With 5 of the team being year 9 girls, they should be incredibly proud of the result, only a narrow victory by the George Salter team, who were older and more experienced players. A huge thankyou to these girls for stepping in and supporting the under 16 team. Player of the match was awarded to Kiran Tiwana, for fantastic attacking play and giving 110% throughout the game despite the scoreline.
U16's Vs Pheonix North
After a comfortable home win against Pheonix North, the girls were hopeful for a repeat performance when we travelled away on the 22nd November. The team was struggling early on due to illness and injury to some of the more experienced players, and they conceded a couple of goals early on. The team fought back to finish level at half time, however endured a tough second half. Unfortunately the game finished with a Pheonix win of 9 goals to 6, with Kiran Tiwana awarded player of the match for her relentless attacking play. The girls have not let this result dampen their spirit and they are all geared up for our next match against George Salter on the 29th.
Q3 Academy Vs Pheonix South
The U16's saw their fourth win of the season today against Pheonix South. Q3 took an early lead in the first quarter and maintained this lead throughout the game. The narrow margin of victory did not reflect the fact that Q3 dominated the game, however a series of missed opportunities meant we won by 8-6. Today's game saw the introduction of Lauren Manton who settled comfortably into the team, and Hannah Arnott who stepped up from the U14's and did an excellent job. Player of the match went to Amber Tucker for some fantastic defending and again showing her strengths as team captain.
The U14's struggled to settle into what turned out to be a frantic and very close game. With some new players and a few changes, the team found their feet by the half way point. The score remained close, with Q3 trailing by a narrow margin for the duration of the game. As the final whistle went, Q3 were about to take a shot to even the score line but unfortunately the clock ran out. The final score was 7-6 to Pheonix South, however the girls can be proud that they worked so hard. A thank you from myself and the team to Taylor Badland who stepped in at short notice to help out the team. Player of the match went to Abigail Duce for some fantastic shooting and attacking play.

Q3 Academy Netball Vs Wood Green
[1/11/11]
Today's matches saw us travelling to Wood Green with depleted teams. The U14's played first and took an early lead thanks to some excellent attacking play by Elle-May Macey and Aimee Humpage and shooting by Darcie Richardson and Simran Ghai. The team gained in confidence as the game progressed, and dominated the third and the final quarter. The defense of Niamh Tucker, Yazmin Leigh Chevers and Hannah Arnott stopped Wood Green from scoring later on in the game and the team sailed to another victory of 8-2. Each week the team show improvement, and they are really proving to be a united and hardworking team. Player of the Match was awarded to Abigail Duce, thanks to some fantastic shooting and attacking play.
The U16's were short of players at the start of the game, so members of the U14 team stepped up to the mark. It was a tough first and second quarter as the new mix of players got to grips with the game, and faced a strong oposition. By the half way point Q3 were trailing, but showed their passion and committment and fought back to narrow the gap in the scoreline, in the final quarter only conceding one goal and scoring four. Unfortunately Q3 fought back a little too late and lost 13-9. The team should be proud of the result of what was a tough game, the majority of the team being made up of year 9 students. There was even an appearance by Aimee Humpage (year 8) who showed her strength and determination in a fantastic performance against a team of girls 2 and 3 years older than herself. Emma Murray, Kiran Tiwana and Amber Tucker, as the most experienced members of the team, led by example showing grit and determination and a refusal to be beaten. Player of the match was Amber Tucker for outstanding defending and leadership during the game as captain.

Q3 U14 and U16 Netball Vs Alexandra High
[041011]
The under 16 team suffered their first loss this week against a strong Alexandra team. They faced their biggest challenge of the season, against a team who featured regional players, and despite a lot of hard work and determination, the opposition were simply too strong on the day. The girls were a credit to the Academy and refused to be disheartened, playing at 100% right up to the final whistle. Well done to: Amber Tucker, Niamh Tucker, Emma Murray, Zara Fortt, Ella Roach, Isabella Pugh, Kiran Tiwana and Abigail Duce.
The Under 14 team got off to a bright start taking an early lead. At the end of the third quarter, the girls had maintained a 2-1 lead thanks to some strong defending. However in the final quarter, some very good shooting by Alexandra meant that they stole the win off us, winning 4-2.

Excellent Performances by Under 14 Girls
[17012011]
Since September the Under 14 girls netball side have gone from strength to strength. Under the watchful eye of Miss Ingall, the side has put in excellent performances, turning out winners against Stuart Bathurst, George Salter, and Phoenix North Collegiate. Abigail Duce has to be commended for her consistent performances, showing much improved shooting skills this season. Emma Murray and Kiran Tiwana have also been highlighted as key players in this year's campaign.
Let's hope that this success continues to the end of the season.
Year 7 Netball Tournament
Manor High School Tournament
On Tuesday 11th May, 10 Year 7 girls took part in a netball tournament against 11 local Sandwell schools hosted at Manor High School. Playing with enthusiasm and determination the Q3 Academy team got off to a flying start winning the first two matches, followed by a draw and then another two wins leaving us top of our pool and through to the semi-final.
The team's excitement was almost uncontainable and felt thrilled to have made it through against some tough opposition. In the semi-final the match ended in a one all draw meaning extra time at sudden death. The Q3 team really stepped up a gear and from the first centre pass the team got the ball straight to Abigail Duce (captain) goal shooter and scored an amazing goal from the top of the semi-circle, resulting in a 2-1 win to Q3 and putting the team through to the final!
The team were ecstatic and could not believe they were about to play the most important match of their lives. Although the team were tiring their effort and enthusiasm never wavered but against Oldbury the winning streak came to an end. The award ceremony followed the final in which each team member received a silver medal and certificate.
To be runners up at a tournament against 11 other local schools is certainly a fantastic result for Q3's Year 7 netball team.
Mrs Owen.
