Sports Events and Awards

Monday 28th June saw the inaugural Q3 Academy Inter-Company competition. During this week all pupils within the Academy were challenged to increase the amount of physical activity they participate in by competing for their company. Activities were organised before school, during lesson, lunch time and after school every day for one week.
Pupils competed in a number of different activities including; rounders, cricket, football and softball. However, the main attractions of the week came in the form of 200 metre rowing challenges, crossbar challenge and basketball free throws. The usual tired morning facades were replaced with energetic, upbeat competitive discussions, as pupils thrived to earn their company more points.
The competition really was intense with Lifestyle and Communications vying for the top spot. To say it went down to the wire would be an understatement, with Lifestyle leading by only 2 points at lunch time on the final Friday, eventually winning by a mere 19 points over Communications.
Sports week is a National Event launched by the ‘Youth Sport Trust', with the aim to ‘To inspire more people to understand the value of sport and to take part'. Schools are asked to sign up to the initiative and in turn are expecting their pupils to make a pledge to:
• Do more physical activity in/outside of school
• Take part in inter-company competitions
• Volunteer in sport
• Join a new sports club.
The buzz and feedback from staff and pupils alike has been excellent. Let's hope that this sort of friendly competition can continue into Sports Day on the 23rd July.
