Parent and Carer Letter – Changes to Behaviour and Rewards

From Monday 17th June, we are introducing some changes to the way we follow up students’ behaviour at Q3 Academy Great Barr – using a balance of both sanctions and rewards. This will ensure that our high standards of ready, respectful, and responsible conduct are consistently maintained, and all students benefit from the best possible environment for learning. The feedback from consultations with parents/carers and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have adapted our decision making in response to your views.

Year 13 timetables

Following a review of our current provision and support provided to Year 13, we are pleased to inform you of changes to the structure of the timetable.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Here at Q3 Academy Great Barr we believe that the emotional wellbeing of our students is as important as their physical health and want to support our students to become well-rounded adults with good health and resilience. To do this we recognise that the stigma around mental health needs to be broken down, changing attitudes to mental health could change somebody’s life.

@youth May Sports Camp – Albion Foundation

The Albion Foundation will be hosting a wide range of activities at Q3 Academy Great Barr during the May Half Term Holiday. Activities include everything from sports, dance and music to films, team building and beauty and will be delivered by fully DBS certified and First Aid trained Albion Foundation staff, from 9.45am until 3pm. Activities are free for young people aged 10-17 and are very popular, so to avoid disappointment please register to secure a place using the links below.

Letter to Parents – Examination Day Procedures

I am writing to advise you and your child of the exam policies, key dates, and times to collect examination results, staff availability and the procedure to follow should you wish to make enquires after the release of examination results.

Letter to Parents – Exam Season

Dear Parents/Carers, The exam season is now underway, and we’ve been really pleased by students’ hard work both in the Academy and at home. I attach an overview schedule showing all exams and revision sessions in the coming weeks. Your child also has a copy of this to help them stay organised and plan ahead. For further clarity, Mr Slack will be printing individual student timetables every week.

Parent and Carer Letter – Ramadan and Exams

Some of our students will shortly be following the religious observance of Ramadan, which this year falls at the same time as the GCSE and A Level examination season. Students who are fasting may experience a range of possible benefits such as feeling closer to God, learning to exercise self-control, and strengthening community and family ties. However, we recognise that fasting often also results in tiredness, low energy, dehydration, reduced focus, memory and concentration issues, which may impact adversely on students during their exams.

Parent and Carer Letter – Behaviour Consultation

We are rightly proud of our reputation for good conduct and behaviour, a view supported by Ofsted and the parent and carer feedback on ParentView. However, not all children will get it right every time, and when students do get it wrong we aim to work with all parties to put things right. No matter how good something is we should always look to make it even better; with that in mind we would like your views on some changes we are considering.

Parent/Carer Letter – April 2019

I would like to thank our students and staff for their fantastic commitment, teamwork and energy. I wish to thank the parents, carers and members of the community for the outstanding support provided to the Academy.
