Letter to Parents/Carers from West Midlands Police
Dear Parent/Carer,
You may be aware of the stabbing which happened in Smethwick on Sunday 26th April 2020 resulting in a young man losing his life.
Karl Gallagher, was fatally stabbed following an altercation at the West Cross Shopping Centre. The 31-year-old from Smethwick leaves behind a daughter, his family are being supported by specially trained officers.
We have arrested and charged a teenager with the murder and has since appeared Wolverhampton magistrates court. Seven other men have been arrested in association with the murder.
Officers have been examining CCTV and mobile phone footage from the scene, some of which has been widely shared on social media.
Officers have set up a dedicated website where people can share any footage they may have to help with the investigation. Please visit it here.
We would ask people not to share on social media as this could cause issues when the case comes to court.
Recognising that a lot of people regularly use social media, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the support, available through local organisations, should parents or children be affected in any way as a result of viewing the video:
Colin Gallier
Inspector 2314
