Do you know what your children are doing online? Are you an adult in Sandwell? Are you aware of the Prevent Strategy?

Many of us are looking forward to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions from Monday, and returning to a more ‘normal’ way of life. However, whilst COVID-19 cases continue to rise, we’re asking that students continue to wear face masks in communal areas of the Academy. This is in-line with local authority advice, and will help minimise the number of students required to self-isolate following identification of a positive case. 

This year more than ever, the mental health and wellbeing of everyone has been challenged. We work closely with Kooth, an organisation that provide online counselling support for young people. This summer, they’re offering free webinars to show what they’re able to offer to young people across the West Midlands.

We have been advised that two of our students in Year 7 have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result we have asked a number of students to self-isolate as a precaution. You will have already been contacted by the Academy if your child is affected.  The Academy will remain open for other students, and providing your child remains well they may attend as normal unless directed otherwise. Students working from home may access their home learning here.

There are loads of services and activities open to young people across Sandwell this summer. Here’s a round-up of some of the great things available.

Thank you to all of our students and staff who are continuing to self-test for COVID-19 and report their results to us regularly, this is a huge step in helping to minimise risk and keep everyone safe as we work to return to a more normal Academy life. Parents/carers of students who have previously not consented to testing, but who may now wish to take part, can collect self-testing kits from locations across Sandwell or book in for asymptomatic testing at a local test site. As we approach the end of the academic year, it is important that the Academy communicates its position on international travel; this has a direct relevance to how families spend the summer break, for example. It is vital that the progress and attendance of children is at the centre, hand-in-hand with providing opportunities and safeguarding mental health.
